How to use fixed gas detectors? How to maintain them during

Time: 2023-03-30

Fixed gas detectors are installed at the work site to detect changes in the concentration of the target gas, and also emit an audible and visual alarm signal to effectively alert the staff at the scene and the control room on duty to take timely precautions.

Correct use and maintenance of gas detectors, and to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the detection results, is necessary to effectively prevent accidents caused by gas leaks.

Gas detection alarm is a precision instrument, so the selection, installation, use and maintenance of the instrument need our attention in the process of use.

First of all, let's understand how to choose the right gas detection equipment?

Select the type of gas detection alarm according to the usage:

◆For long-term continuous monitoring of combustible gases or toxic gases, fixed instruments should be selected;

◆For leak detection, confirmation and monitoring of combustible gas or toxic gas environment, safety inspection operations and for personal safety protection, etc., portable instruments should be selected;

◆The area or location to be monitored does not have the conditions for setting fixed instruments, or the temporary operation area needs to be monitored, and when there is a possibility of combustible or toxic gas or vapor in the temporary operation in the area, portable or mobile instruments should be selected.

First let's understand how to choose the right gas detection equipment?

Select the type of gas detection alarm according to the usage:

◆For long-term continuous monitoring of combustible gases or toxic gases, fixed type instruments should be selected;

◆For leak detection, confirmation and monitoring of combustible gas or toxic gas environment, safety inspection operations and for personal safety protection, etc., portable instruments should be selected;

◆ When the area or location to be monitored does not have the conditions for setting fixed instruments, or when the temporary operation area needs to be monitored and there is a possibility of flammable or toxic gases or vapors in the temporary operation in the area, portable or mobile instruments should be selected.

What are the requirements for the use of fixed gas detectors?

1. In production facilities, storage and transportation, public works and other places where toxic and hazardous, flammable and explosive materials may leak, fixed instruments should be set when the concentration of leaking gas may reach the alarm setting value.

2. When the alarm controller receives the alarm signal from the detector, it should issue an audible and optical alarm signal, indicate the alarm site, record the alarm time and keep it, and only after confirming the measures taken to deal with it, it is allowed to stop the alarm manually, and when the alarm signal is input again, it should be able to start again. When multiple instruments are alarmed at the same time, it should be able to distinguish the first alarmed instrument.

3. When there is a gas alarm signal, fault signal, shielding signal input, the alarm controller should display the time, location, name, signal type and part of the input signal sent by the device and has the transmission status indication, and has continuous recording, accident warning, information storage and other functions.

4. Instrument environmental conditions should meet the actual use of environmental temperature, air pressure, humidity, dust changes in the range, protection performance should be consistent with the actual use of the instrument environmental conditions.

5. When the detector is set in outdoor and open buildings and other open places, sufficient protective measures should be taken to ensure the normal operation of the detector in response to adverse weather conditions, such as water vapor, heavy rain, snow, ice and dust, etc., which may have an adverse impact on the detector. When there is a possibility of water ingress and storage in the detector and cable connection protection tube, protective measures should be taken, and the protective measures should not affect the flow of airflow obstructing the detector probe.

6. When the detector is in a high temperature environment, it should be used according to the following requirements:

a) the operating temperature of the detector is not higher than the operating temperature given in the instrument manual;

b) The detector should be installed directly above the heat source as far as possible, and it is advisable to choose the same height position away from the heat source for installation;

c) When used in hot areas, the open-air detector should be protected by a protective cover to avoid direct sunlight.

7. For occasions where strong electromagnetic field interference cannot be avoided, shielding measures should be taken to ensure that the detector is not subject to electromagnetic interference.

8. The sensor of the detector should avoid contact with harmful substances that may cause damage to it.

What are the maintenance requirements for fixed gas detectors?

1. The stationary instrument should be inspected routinely, and the inspection period should not exceed one month, and the inspection mainly includes

a) Whether the appearance is intact or not;

b) whether the function of the detector's rain cover is perfect;

c) whether the indication is normal;

d) whether the connecting parts are loose;

e) whether the detector components are blocked;

f) whether the secondary instrument and the special control system are operating normally.

2. The control and alarm units of fixed instruments should be inspected to ensure the normal operation of their lights, alarms and circuits, and the inspection period should not exceed 3 months.

3. Each inspection should be recorded and filed, and any problems found should be dealt with immediately.

4. When fixed instruments fail, personnel should be arranged immediately to the scene for confirmation, and alternative plans and safety protection measures should be made during the failure to ensure the safety of personnel.

Mastering the safe use and maintenance methods of fixed gas detection alarms can effectively extend the service life of the instrument, ensure the sensitivity and effectiveness of the instrument, and ensure the safety of the operating environment gas!
