What is the reason why the gas detector keeps alarming?

2024-09-05

Gas detectors can protect consumers’ life and property safety to a great extent, and are indispensable protection equipment in the process of industrial safety production. The gas detectors are of various types and powerful functions, which can be widely used in many fields such as gas, petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, metallurgy, petrol station, nine small places, comprehensive pipeline corridor, coal, municipal and so on. Through real-time monitoring of the atmospheric environment of combustible gases or other toxic and hazardous gases leakage concentration, timely warning signals, so as to remind people to take first aid measures to ensure environmental safety and personnel health.

When the gas detector detects that the concentration of the gas to be measured exceeds the standard, it will immediately issue an audible and visual alarm signal. However, if the gas detector keeps alarming, it will also make people feel uneasy. So, what are the reasons why gas detectors keep alarming? And how should we deal with it?

Why do gas detectors keep alarming?

There are various reasons why a gas detector keeps alarming, which may be caused by equipment malfunction, changing environmental conditions or abnormal gas concentration. The following are some common reasons that may cause a gas detector to keep alarming:

1 High concentration of gas present

★ Explosion Hazard: The gas detector keeps alarming may be due to the detection of a high concentration of combustible gas that has reached the set alarm threshold, indicating the presence of an explosion hazard.

★ Toxic gases: If the detector is used to monitor toxic gases, high concentrations of toxic gases can also cause a constant alarm.

Once the gas detector is in alarm, first determine if there is a gas leak in the detection area. If the alarm is caused by a high concentration of leaking gas, first stop the operation, close the valves, open the doors and windows to ventilate the area, and wait until the gas concentration is reduced to a suitable range before the detector alarm is automatically cancelled, if it is confirmed to be safe to do so.

2 Instrument failure or calibration problems

★ Sensor Failure: The sensor of the gas detector may malfunction, resulting in false readings, which can trigger the instrument to alarm continuously.

★ Calibration failure: If the gas detector is not calibrated correctly, or if the calibration is out of date, it may lead to false alarms.

3 Environmental Conditions Interference

★ Temperature and humidity changes: Some gas detectors are sensitive to environmental conditions, and changes in temperature and humidity may cause a continuous alarm.

★ Electromagnetic interference: Strong electromagnetic fields may affect the normal operation of the gas detector.

4 Alarm value setting is unreasonable: gas detectors mainly have two kinds of low and high alarms, and the preset value of the alarm value should be set according to the corresponding detected gases. If the low alarm value is set too low, then the detector as long as the ‘smell’ a little gas, will always be in the alarm state. Similarly, the alarm value is set too high also can not, because even if there is a gas leakage problem is also very difficult to detect, will bring a major threat to the safety of production.

5 Aging of equipment: Prolonged use may lead to aging of the internal components of the gas detector, thus affecting its performance. Timely maintenance and replacement of key components is necessary.

6 Damaged sensor: As we all know, the sensor is the core component of the gas detector. When used for a certain period of time, the alarm value will be offset. At this time, you need to replace the sensor in time to ensure that the detection results are accurate.

7 equipment line problems: line problems, will lead to gas alarm controller host can not patrol to the gas detector, so as to issue an alarm fault.

8 operation error: gas detector misoperation or improper use may lead to false alarms, need to ensure the correct use and operation.
