How to detect tunnel toxic and harmful gas solutions (Part I

Time: 2022-04-07

What toxic and harmful gases are there in the tunnel?

The factors that cause harm to property, human health and life in the production process of toxic and harmful gases can be divided into three aspects: Physics, chemistry and biology. Among them, the influence of chemical factors is the most harmful. Toxic and harmful gases are the most common part of chemical factors.

There are two kinds of toxic and harmful gases in the tunnel: combustible gas and toxic gas. Toxic gases are divided into irritant gases, asphyxiating gases and acute toxic organic gases.

Among them, irritant gases include chlorine, phosgene, diphosphate, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, ozone and other gases.

Irritant gases have strong irritant effects on skin and mucous membrane, and some of them have strong corrosive effects at the same time.

Short term exposure to high concentrations of irritant gases can cause severe acute poisoning, while long-term exposure to low concentrations of irritant gases can cause chronic injury.

Asphyxiating gases include carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen cyanide, carbon dioxide and other gases. The hypoxia of tissues and cells caused by these compounds after entering the body is different. After entering the body, carbon monoxide mainly combines with the hemoglobin of red blood cells to form carboxyhemoglobin, so that red blood cells lose their oxygen carrying capacity, so that tissue cells can not get enough oxygen. After hydrogen cyanide enters the body, the cyanide ion acts directly on cytochrome oxidase, making it lose the ability to transmit electrons. As a result, the cells cannot absorb and utilize oxygen, causing intracellular asphyxia.

The combustible gas methane is colorless, tasteless and non-toxic, but it can also cause damage to the body, which is easy to reduce the oxygen concentration in the inhaled gas and lead to anoxic asphyxia. The destructiveness of toxic gas hydrogen sulfide after entering the body is multifaceted. High concentration hydrogen sulfide causes respiratory paralysis and even sudden death through strong stimulation to the chemical receptors of olfactory nerve, respiratory mucosal nerve, carotid sinus and aortic body.

The hazard of combustible gas is mainly BZ caused by gas combustion, which is harmful to property and human life. However, certain conditions must be met for the occurrence of BZ of combustible gas.

Whether it is irritant gas, asphyxiating gas, acute toxic organic gas or combustible gas, specific instruments need to be used to detect it. In the next chapter, we will explain how to effectively detect and prevent these gases.
