How to use and maintain the fixed gas detection alarm safely

Time: 2022-09-09
As the main component of the gas leakage monitoring and alarm system, the correct use and maintenance of the fixed gas detection and alarm device and the guarantee of the accuracy and reliability of the detection results are the necessary conditions for effectively preventing accidents caused by gas leakage.

Gas detection alarm is a kind of precision instrument. Therefore, it puts forward higher requirements for customers in the selection, installation, use, maintenance and other aspects of the instrument.

How to choose a gas detector?
In the production process, the type of gas detector and alarm shall be determined according to the use:
◆ for long-term continuous monitoring of combustible gas or toxic gas, fixed instruments should be selected;
◆ portable instruments shall be selected for leakage detection, confirmation and monitoring of combustible gas or toxic gas environment, safety inspection and personal safety protection;
◆ when the area or location to be monitored does not meet the conditions for setting fixed instruments, or the temporary operation area needs to be monitored, and combustible, toxic gases or vapors may occur during temporary operation in this area, portable or mobile instruments should be selected.

How to set the alarm value of the gas detector?
The setting of the alarm value of the gas detection and alarm instrument shall follow the principle of safety, science and feasibility, so as to facilitate the on-site workers to respond in time, take emergency rescue measures, eliminate abnormal conditions and ensure personal safety. The alarm value of explosive toxic gas shall be set in accordance with the requirements of poisoning prevention.

Requirements for use of fixed gas detection alarm
1. In production units, storage and transportation, public works and other places where toxic, harmful, flammable and explosive materials may leak, fixed instruments shall be set when the concentration of leaked gas may reach the alarm set value.
2. When the alarm controller receives the alarm signal from the detector, it shall send out audible and visual alarm signals, indicate the alarm position, record the alarm time and keep it. Only after confirmation and taking treatment measures can the alarm be stopped manually. When the alarm signal is input again, it shall be able to start again. When multiple instruments alarm at the same time, it shall be able to distinguish the instruments that alarm first.
3. When gas alarm signal, fault signal and shielding signal are input, the alarm controller shall display the time, position, name, signal category and position of the input signal sent by the device, and have transmission status indication, and have functions of continuous recording, accident warning and information storage.
4. The applicable conditions of the instrument environment shall meet the change range of the actual operating environment temperature, air pressure, humidity and dust, and the protection performance shall meet the actual operating environment of the instrument.
5. When the detector is set in outdoor and open buildings and other open places, adequate protective measures shall be taken to ensure the normal operation of the detector in view of the adverse effects of adverse weather conditions, such as water vapor, rainstorm, snow, ice and dust, on the detector. When there is possibility of water ingress and water storage in the detector and cable connection protection pipe, protective measures shall be taken, and the protective measures shall not affect or hinder the flow of air flow in the detector probe.
6. When the detector is in a high-temperature environment, it should be used according to the following requirements:
a) The operating temperature of the detector shall not be higher than the operating temperature given in the instrument manual;
b) The detector shall not be installed directly above the heat source as far as possible, and should be installed at the same height away from the heat source at a certain distance;
c) When used in hot areas, the open-air detector shall be provided with a protective cover to avoid direct sunlight.
7. For occasions where strong electromagnetic interference cannot be avoided, shielding measures shall be taken to ensure that the detector is not subject to electromagnetic interference.
8. The sensor of the detector shall avoid contact with harmful substances that may cause damage to it.

Maintenance requirements for fixed gas detection alarm
1. Regular inspection shall be carried out for fixed instruments, and the inspection cycle shall not exceed one month. The inspection contents mainly include:
a) Whether the appearance is intact;
b) Whether the rain cover function of the detector is perfect;
c) Whether the indication is normal;
d) Whether the connecting parts are loose;
e) Whether the detector components are blocked;
f) Check whether the secondary instrument and special control system operate normally.
2. The control and alarm units of fixed instruments shall be inspected to ensure the normal operation of their lights, alarms and circuits. The inspection period shall not exceed 3 months.
3. Each inspection shall be recorded and filed, and problems found shall be handled immediately.
4. In case of failure of fixed instruments, personnel shall be arranged to the site immediately for confirmation. During the failure period, alternative schemes and safety protection measures shall be taken to ensure personnel safety.
